The TRANSECTS project team met with stakeholder partners and the project advisory group at the Sir Duncan Rice Library, University of Aberdeen (and online) on 27-28 August 2024 to formally kick-off the project.
Two days of discussions focused on interdisciplinary collaboration and further refining the scope of research activities and methodologies to examine the effects of marine energy transitions on coastal community resilience. A key outcome of our discussions was to establish ‘Case Study Champions’ who will be the main point of contact for each case study location: Daryl Burdon (Hull), Daria Shapovalova (Aberdeenshire) and Dan Lee (Orkney).
The TRANSECTS team also enjoyed a dinner at Greyhope Bay, the first and only cafe in Aberdeen that operates off-grid using a hybrid energy and circular rainwater treatment technology. We were treated to a talk from Founder and Chief Executive Dr Fiona McIntyre who talked about some of the community group initiatives taking place at the centre which aims to connect, empower and re-imagine the relationship between people and the coast.
